Olduvai - Words Fail

​Ho deciso di portare un genere nuovo su AmbientMusic, fino adesso abbiamo sempre parlato di ambient, dark ambient, cosmic music e sperimentale e tutte le loro piccole o grandi sfaccettature. Oggi invece parliamo anche di una classica Chillout con un interessante EP intitolato Words Fail di Olduvai, compositore americano. 

Essendo appunto un EP possiamo ascoltare circa 20 minuti di musica in cinque tracce. Ho scelto questo progetto perchè l'ho trovato un esempio calzante per quanto riguarda il mio obiettivo. Prima di parlare del EP vorrei spendere quindi due parole su questo genere: normalmente le caratteristiche classiche della chillout sono timbriche melodiche richiamanti molto le sonorità della classica ambient music, accompagnata da sostenuti e costanti giri ritmici che scandiscono bene il tempo, al contrario dell'ambient music dove invece dominano lunghi synt o droni. Inoltre nella chillout spesso possiamo sentire voci femminili o maschili cantare piccoli ritornelli molto rilassanti e senza "impegno" per cosi dire. Nel complesso è un evoluzione "vivace" dell'ambient music, una musica rilassante e perfetta per molte occasioni. 

Words Fail di Olduvai racchiude tutto ciò che ho descritto fino adesso. Mi sono molto piaciute le linee melodiche eseguite dal piano che il compositore americano ha creato, le ho trovate molto squillanti e allegre. I ritmi di batteria che accompagnano l'intero lavoro sono leggeri, vivaci e per nulla sgradevoli. Insomma Olduvai ci propone un gradevole EP che racchiude l'essenza di una vera e classica chillout! 

Ne consiglio a tutti l'ascolto, soprattutto a chi è nuovo del genere.

I decided to tell you about a new genre on AmbientMusic Blog, until now we have always talked about ambient, dark ambient, cosmic and experimental music and all their little or big side. Today, however, we also speak about a classic Chillout music with an interesting EP titled Words Fail by Olduvai an American composer. Being just an EP it presents about 20 minutes of music spread on five tracks. I chose this project because I found it a fitting example for my goal. Before talking about this EP I would like to say a few words about this genre: normally the classical features of Chillout music are melodic timbres which reminiscent of the classic ambientmusic sounds, accompanied by sustained and constant rhythms that scan the time, unlike the ambient music where instead long synt or drones are dominating. Also in Chillout we can often listen to female or male voices singing small refrains,  very relaxing and without 'commitment'. Overall, it is a lively evolution of ambient music, a music that is perfect for many occasions. Olduvai's Words Fail encloses everything I've described previously. I found The melodic lines performed by the piano that the American composer created very 'bright' and 'happy'. The drum rhythms that accompany the whole work are light, lively and not at all unpleasant. In short, Olduvai has brought us a nice EP that contains the essence of a true and classic Chillout music! I recommend everyone to listen to it, especially to those who are new to the genre.
